2005 Lifetime Achievement Award

Associated General Contractors (AGC) of Iowa established the "Lifetime Achievement Award" to recognize those individuals whose extraordinary life's accomplishments and devotion to the industry, employees, community and family represent the highest standards of professionalism and humanity.

This award was presented to Robins H. Jackson on January 12, 2005.

Robins made the decision to become involved in construction associations very early on.  He served as President of AGC of Iowa in 1967.  He was one of the founders of the Iowa Concrete Paving Association (ICPA) and served as President in 1974.  He went on to be elected President of the American Concrete Paving Association (ACPA) in 1977.  In 1982 he represented ACPA on the Construction Industry Council. He then became involved with AGC at the national level, becoming President in 1992.  Throughout this time he chaired numerous committees at both the state and national level.  Robins also served as President of the Confederation of International Contractors' Association for 2 1/2 years ending in 1998.

Other contributions to the industry included being a member of the  National Construction Industry Council, the American Institute of Contractors, the Road Information Program, Consulting Contractors of America, the Civil Engineering Advisory Committee at Iowa State University (chairman), the Knoll at Iowa State University and Governor Ray's Iowa Year 2000 Task Force. This degree of service to the industry is certainly a lifetime achievement by any definition!

2005 ACPA National Awards - Winner & Finalist

Cedar Valley Corp. was honored as a Winner and as a Finalist at the Annual ACPA Excellence in Concrete Pavement Convention held in Indian Wells, California.   Awards are designed to honor quality concrete pavements constructed in the United States and Canada each year.

  • WINNER - DIVIDED HIGHWAYS - RURAL
The Hwy. 60 Alton Bypass project in Sioux County, Iowa was a unique, award winning project for Cedar Valley Corp. in many ways.  CVC set a pre-project goal of achieving Iowa’s trial zero-band specification and then placed 21.5 lane miles of mainline paving with an average of 1.4 inches per mile and no required corrective work.  Daily production levels were planned to start and stop mainline pours at the nine bridges on the project, eliminating the need for day’s end headers.  The project also required construction of a 29.5 foot fill over an old concrete box culvert.  CVC used lightweight Geofoam fill and geomembrane liners to facilitate a construction sequence that protected the structure and saved a considerable amount of money.

  • FINALIST - OVERLAYS
Cedar Valley Corp. was also a finalist in the Overlays category for Wapello County V-37 in Hedrick, Iowa.  The project consisted of a 3.5 mile concrete overlay in Wapello County, Iowa.  This project combined two different paving construction techniques within one project, requiring hours of planning, coordination, and precise execution.  This was accomplished under the supervision of two different county engineering staffs with different concrete aggregates, all-the-while having to deal with heavy Iowa rains.  Despite these factors, CVC completed the project on schedule with exceptional smoothness.

2005 NDA Project of the Year Award - Blair Airport

The Nebraska Department of Aeronautics named CVC’s Blair Airport project the Project of the Year.

Cedar Valley Corp., as the prime contractor for the Blair Airport project, was honored by the Nebraska Department of Aeronautics for excellence in

  • Exemplary partnership with the Blair Airport Authority and HSW Consulting Group
  • Producing the smoothest pavement on a general aviation runway completed in the state of Nebraska in at least the last five years
  • Following a detailed and thorough construction schedule
  • Outstanding quality of work
  • Project completion in four working days
2005 NCPA Awards

The Blair Airport project was recognized as a winner in the airport division of the Nebraska Concrete Pavement Awards for 2005.

Two of the goals in the Nebraska Concrete Paving Association's mission statement are " to recognize high quality design and construction through annual awards" and "to assure that the quality of concrete pavement produced by the concrete paving industry members in Nebraska meets the highest standards".  Cedar Valley Corp.'s Blair Airport project in Blair, Nebraska met theses goals and was recognized as a winner in the airport division category!
