Health Insurance

Health insurance for employees of Cedar Valley Corp., their spouse and dependent children goes into effect as soon as the employee reports for work on the first day. The company pays the entire premium for this comprehensive insurance package.

Prescription Drug Card

Employees of Cedar Valley Corp. save money by taking their prescription drug card to one of the local network pharmacies where they are able to purchase a maximum 34-day supply for 20% of the cost of the prescription for generic drugs or 30% of the cost of the prescription for brand name drugs.

For prescriptions of up to 90-day supplies, Cedar Valley Corp. employees and their families may save even more through the use of the mail order service where they pay only 20% for generic drugs or 25% for brand name drugs for an entire 35-90 day supply.

401(k) Plan
Beginning with the first hour worked, Cedar Valley Corp. contributes $1 per hour worked to each employee’s 401(k) plan. This plan is 100% vested immediately for hourly employees and is in addition to the employee’s regular rate of pay. Employees may also choose to defer a portion of their earnings (up to the current maximum allowed by the IRS) to their 401(k) plan. Most employees working a full season can expect employer contributions of between $1,300 to $1,500 per year.

Life Insurance
The first of the month following six months of active employment, hourly employees are enrolled in a group term life insurance plan that provides $20,000 coverage on the employee, $5,000 on the spouse and $2,500 on each eligible dependent child. Cedar Valley Corp. pays the entire premium.

Safety Incentives
Cedar Valley Corp. strives to instill in each employee the desire to keep our entire workplace accident-free through its Safety Incentive Programs. Therefore, all employees are required to follow our safety program.  By working safely, employees of Cedar Valley Corp. are eligible to earn safety points, which are redeemed for gift cards.

Cedar Valley Corp. has implemented a high visibility, safety clothing policy for all its field crews. Employees are required to wear high visibility safety orange or lime green shirts (or vests) at all times on the job. After 30 days of employment employees are given two T-shirts embroidered with the Cedar Valley Corp. logo. Additional safety clothing items are available to employees at a reduced rate. Payroll deduction may be used to pay for the clothing items.

Outstanding Employee Awards
This program recognizes employees who have shown a willingness to give exemplary effort in their daily work assignments. Award recipients receive company-wide recognition and $250.

Good Idea Program
The Good Idea Program encourages our employees to think constructively about their work and suggest ways to improve the quality of products or processes.

Adopted ideas can mean cash awards, merchandise, or some other reward for the employee as well as recognition in the company newsletter.

In-House Referral Plan
We believe that our current employees serve as the best recruiters of new employees. Our employees can earn up to $200 when they refer a candidate who is hired and remains with the company for a specified number of pay periods.

Advancement Opportunities
Cedar Valley Corp. encourages employees to advance in their career by participating in training when available.  Internal promotions can be made when individuals exhibit  the skills required for the open position.  Historically, many of our salaried field personnel have advanced through the hourly field ranks.

Daily Subsistence Pay
Daily subsistence is paid by Cedar Valley Corp. to help offset the costs incurred when living “on the road.” Employees qualify for daily subsistence pay when the job site is more than 60 miles from the home office in Waterloo, Iowa.

Daily subsistence is paid when an employee is told to report for work, arrives at the job site on time and is prepared to work. Daily subsistence payments are made whether the crew works or not, provided all other conditions are met.

Hourly Year-End Incentive
As a reward to employees who have endured the rigors of “living on the road” and have completed the construction season, Cedar Valley Corp. will build an annual pool of funds which is divided among hourly field employees who stay until formally laid off by their supervisor.
